Salary reduction question

My company was acquired by another company. My ex-boss left the company and I have a new boss. Recently, my new boss said that my salary might be reduced because my scope of work was reduced (due to the acquisition, not by my request or choice).

May I know if this is legal for the company to do? Can I disagree to the salary reduction? Since I earn more than RM 5,000 a month, is there any protection for me under the Industrial Relations Act?

Many thanks for your help.

If the reduction is substantial, you may consult a lawyer whether there a breach of contract. Of course you may also consult the IR Department as to the best course of action to take.
