Resignation Short notice - Payment of Salary in Lieu

Hi,

This is a really useful forum and keep up the good work!

I have a scenario which would appreciate your input.

Scenario

If a staff has resigned and the date of letter is 4 June 2012,  he has to serve a 3 months notice which would bring the last working day to 3 Sept 2012.

However, in the letter he has asked for 24 June (Sunday) to be the last working day.

Question is

1)  Since 24 June is a Sunday, can the employer state in the acceptance letter that since it's a sunday, the staff last working day will be 23 June, Saturday and pay him till that day?

2) Hence, the amount of salary in lieu of notice will be starting from 24 June - 3 Sept 2012 ?   

3) If the salary in lieu of notice is calculated based on [ (salary / actual number of days in the months) x  number of days (short notice)].  Sundays and Public Holidays should be included in the number of days of short notice or should it be removed ?

In my opinion, it should be from 25 June. All days should be included in the calculation of indemnity.
