Taking unpaid leave during notice period

One of my staff has tendered one month notice from 1st Nov to 30th Nov.  However, she is taking unpaid leave due to emergency from 1st to 17th Nov.  My question is can an employee take unpaid leave during notice period and how to calculate the salary  

1)  Should we pay her full salary and ask her to compensate the 17 days unpaid leave? 

2)  Or should we deduct off 17 days unpaid leave from her full salary and she can leave on 1st dec?
