Reject salary in lieu of notice

""employment may be terminated by either party giving to the other two (2) months notice in writing or payment of two (2) months salary in lieu of such notice""

The above is the clause stated in my employment contact. If the plan is to serve 1 month and pay the other month in lieu of notice, can an employer reject the payment in lieu of notice and make the employee serve 2 full months?

What you can do is to give 2 months notice first but don't tell them you are going to pay one month salary in lieu for the second month. Only at the end of the first month, you pay one month salary or let them take your salary for the first month and use it as indemnity for the second month notice, and go.
