Termination after expiry of contract

Hi,

I employed a staff on 1 Oct 2018 and provided a contract of employment valid til 31 Dec 2018 which was the probation period. A new permamnet contract was supposed to be signed after that. However, the employee served me a resignation notice effective 28 Dec 2018 and said will work until 28 Jan 2019. However, on 08 Jan 2019 I decided to terminate him on grounds of insubordination effective immediately. Is it valid to do so without a notice period since there is no more valid working contract? And he carried forward on his own accord 3 off days from Dec 2018 to Jan 2019. I want to compensate him in his final salary since he worked those 3 days. How do I calculate the amount?

1. You have to pay his salary up to 9 Jan to 28 Jan.

2, He will have to pay back the company 3 days salary for not working for 3 days.
