Compulsory Leave on 30 Aug 2010
Member
Dear Sir,
Our company is going to closed on 30 Aug 2010 (Monday) as celebration of Merdeka by deduct employees one (1) day Annual leave.
Is it legal to do that by deducting our Annual Leave?
Thank you

If your company is on 5 days week, I think it is not bad to have a long stretch of holidays to enjoy. If the majority of the staff is in favour of taking own leave, better just go along and have a nice rest.

Thanks for the fast reply. Only 1staff taking off on 30 Aug 2010.
Since labor law has missed out of this terms, we should convince the head not to do it right? because we quite worry for next coming Hari Raya will force leave to have the whole week close... At that time, most of the employees will be deduct as unpaid leave...

In that case, since there is few takers, discuss with your boss about and suggest to keep the day for Hari Raya.

I have the same problem, My company had issued a memo to deduct the staffs 4 days annual leave during the Hari Raya and for Harvest Festival (Sabah) due to the bos decided to closed down the company for that period.
in this case, my annual leave will become 0 after the deduction of this mandatory leave, how if when i really needs to take leave for my personal things?
May I know to deduct the employee's annual leave due to own closed down is allowable in labour law? Which section in labour law allowable for this? can i complaint to the labour law dept?
pls advice.
Thank you.
